Having grown up in this veritable technological age means that we’re well aware of the term “catfishing”. While our parents and grandparents probably think of the strange whiskered fish when they hear the word, us Millennials know that when it comes to the internet, “catfishing” refers to someone who sets up a false social media profile for deceptive purposes.
Whether you tuned into the eponymous MTV television show or have heard cautionary tales from friends, when you really take time to think about it, it quickly becomes apparent that we have all, at one point or the other, fallen victim to the phenomenon. Certainly, anyone who uses dating apps will have had a Tinder date with someone who claimed to be taller, or alleged that they were 24, but really looked closer to 44.
These nine people, however, took to Reddit to share their own personal catfishing stories, and boy do they make ours look tame in comparison…
